How to Choose a House Cleaning Service in Minneapolis (What to Look For)

MN’S #1 cleaning service How To Choose A House Cleaning Service. 8 things to check before you let anyone into your home. Skip any of these and you’re taking unnecessary risk. Instant Booking call now Verified & Loved On Buyer’s Guide How To Choose A House Cleaning Service In Minneapolis 8 things to check before you let anyone into your home. Skip any of these and you’re taking unnecessary risk. There are hundreds of cleaning services in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro. Some are excellent. Some will damage your home, skip half the checklist, and ghost you when you complain. The difference comes down to knowing what to look for before you book. 01Insurance & Bonding — Non-Negotiable If an uninsured cleaner breaks something valuable, you’re paying for it. If they get injured in your home, you could be liable. Every legitimate company should carry general liability insurance (minimum $1 million) and be bonded. Ask for a Certificate of Insurance. A real company provides it without hesitation. 02W2 Employees vs. Independent Contractors W2 employees are hired, trained, and managed by the company. If something goes wrong, accountability is clear. Independent contractors are freelancers — the company has limited control over quality. Most app-based platforms (Handy, TaskRabbit) use contractors. Most established local companies use W2 employees. Ask directly. 03Background Checks & Vetting You’re inviting people where your family sleeps. A thorough vetting process includes criminal background checks, identity verification, reference checks, and an in-person interview. The best companies add a probationary training period before independent assignments. If a company can’t explain their process, they probably don’t have one. 04Google Reviews — Quality Over Quantity Check three things: Volume — 50+ reviews means an established track record. Recency — scroll through recent reviews, not just the overall rating. Responses — does the company respond to every review, especially negative ones? Companies that ignore reviews don’t care about satisfaction after they’ve been paid. 05Pricing Transparency — Flat Rate vs. Hourly Flat-rate gives you the total cost upfront. The team is incentivized to work efficiently. Hourly means your cost depends on how long they take. Also beware of companies advertising a low base price with “add-ons” for basics like bathroom cleaning. See our full 2026 Minneapolis pricing guide for typical costs. 06Cleaning Products & Equipment Professional-grade, non-toxic products clean just as effectively without health risks. HEPA filtration vacuums trap fine particles instead of recirculating them. Companies that invest in quality supplies care about your health. Avoid companies that use the cheapest products or ask you to provide your own. 07Consistency & Communication Ask: Will I get the same team each visit? Consistent teams learn your home. What’s your rescheduling policy? Look for 24-48 hour notice. How do I report issues? The best companies have a satisfaction guarantee with a re-clean policy. Do you send arrival notifications? Professional operations confirm bookings and send ETA updates. 08What’s Actually Included Get the full checklist — not a vague “we clean everything.” A standard recurring clean should include kitchen surfaces, appliance exteriors, bathroom disinfection, floors, dusting, and trash at minimum. A deep clean adds inside appliances, baseboards, ceiling fans, and window tracks. If they can’t provide a written checklist, they’re winging it. Warning Signs Red Flags — Walk Away If You See These ✕ No insurance documentation when asked. Hesitation means they don’t have it. ✕ Cash only or no invoice. They’re cutting corners on taxes and insurance — what else? ✕ No online presence. No Google profile, no website, no reviews means no accountability. ✕ Prices significantly below market rate. If everyone charges $150+ and they offer $60, something is missing. ✕ No satisfaction policy in writing. If they won’t guarantee their work, they don’t trust their own quality. At Signature Shine, we check every box: fully insured and bonded, W2 employees with background checks, 5-star Google reviews, flat-rate pricing, organic products with HEPA filtration, consistent team assignments, and a detailed written checklist with satisfaction guarantee. We serve Minneapolis, Edina, Minnetonka, Wayzata, Plymouth, and the entire Twin Cities metro. Common Questions Choosing A Cleaning Service FAQ Answers to the most common questions about hiring a cleaning service in Minneapolis. How do I verify that a cleaning company is insured? Ask for a Certificate of Insurance (COI). Any legitimately insured company provides this on request — it shows their provider, policy number, coverage amounts, and effective dates. If they can’t produce it, they likely don’t carry insurance. Is it better to hire a franchise or a local company? Both can provide excellent service. Franchises have standardized processes but charge more due to franchise fees. Local companies offer personalized service, competitive flat-rate pricing, and direct accountability to the owner. The key factors depend on the specific company, not the business model. What should I do before the cleaning team arrives? Pick up loose items from floors and surfaces so the team can focus on cleaning. Secure valuables and medications. Communicate focus areas. Ensure access to your home via key, door code, or being present. How do I know if the cleaning quality is good enough? After your first visit, check bathroom fixtures, kitchen surfaces, floors, and baseboards. Run your finger along surfaces. If you find issues, communicate them. A professional company addresses it immediately. If quality issues persist after feedback, switch providers. Can I tip my house cleaners? Tipping is not required but always appreciated. The standard is 15-20% for one-time cleans. For recurring clients, many people tip $10-$20 per visit or give a larger tip during the holidays. Made Your Choice? The Complete Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Minneapolis Renters

MN’S #1 cleaning service The Complete Move-Out Cleaning Checklist. Room-by-room guide to pass your landlord’s inspection and get your full security deposit back in Minneapolis. Instant Booking call now Verified & Loved On Renter’s Guide The Complete Move-Out Cleaning Checklist Room-by-room guide to pass your landlord’s inspection and get your full security deposit back in Minneapolis. Moving out of your Minneapolis apartment? Your security deposit depends on passing that final inspection. Minnesota law requires landlords to return your deposit within 21 days — but only if the property meets their cleanliness and damage standards. This checklist covers every detail that Minneapolis landlords inspect. Whether you’re leaving a studio in North Loop, a two-bedroom in Uptown, or a townhome in Bloomington, this is your playbook. Pro tip: Schedule your cleaning after furniture is removed but before your final walkthrough. An empty unit is dramatically easier to clean and gives professionals full access to every surface. Kitchen ☐ Oven interior — walls, floor, ceiling, door glass (both sides), door seal. Remove racks and clean separately. #1 inspection failure item. ☐ Stovetop — remove burner grates/coils, clean underneath. Scrub drip pans. Clean knobs and area behind them. ☐ Refrigerator — remove all shelves/drawers, wash each. Clean interior walls, ceiling, floor. Wipe door seals. Clean exterior and top. ☐ Dishwasher — run empty cycle with vinegar. Wipe interior, door edges, rubber seal. Clean bottom filter. ☐ Microwave — clean interior walls, ceiling, turntable, and door. ☐ Cabinets — every shelf, interior walls, inside of doors. Remove shelf liner. Clean exterior fronts near stove. ☐ Countertops, backsplash, sink, faucet — scrub grout, remove hard water deposits. Clean under the sink. ☐ Floor — sweep corners and baseboards. Mop thoroughly. Focus under stove and refrigerator area. Bathroom ☐ Toilet — inside bowl, exterior (tank, lid, seat both sides, base), behind toilet, seat hinges. ☐ Shower/tub — scrub all tile, tub surface, shower floor. Remove soap scum and hard water. Clean grout. Clean showerhead. ☐ Sink and vanity — clean basin, faucet, handles. Remove hard water spots. Mirror streak-free. Inside vanity cabinet. ☐ Exhaust fan — remove cover and clean. Wipe fan housing. Frequently missed, always inspected. ☐ Floor — sweep corners, mop thoroughly. Behind toilet and around vanity base. Bedrooms & Living Areas ☐ Closets — empty completely. Wipe all shelves and rod. Clean floor. Wipe interior walls and door top edge. ☐ Windows — clean interior glass. Wipe sills, tracks, and frames. Vacuum debris from tracks. ☐ Walls — wipe scuff marks, fingerprints. Focus near light switches and where furniture sat. ☐ Baseboards — wipe every baseboard in every room. Non-negotiable for full deposit. ☐ Ceiling fans, light fixtures — dust blades, clean covers. Replace burnt-out bulbs. ☐ Doors — wipe both sides, frame, top edge. Clean handles and hinges. ☐ Floors — vacuum all carpet (two passes). Sweep then mop hard floors. ☐ Air vents — remove covers, wash. Wipe inside duct opening. Most Commonly Missed Items That Cost You Money On Inspection ! Top of the refrigerator — thick grease and dust ! Inside the oven — #1 deduction item ! Light switch plates — years of fingerprints ! Door tops — visible dust line ! Under the kitchen sink — supply residue ! Window tracks — dead bugs and debris ! Closet shelves — empty shelves still need wiping ! Dishwasher filter — food buildup causes odors DIY vs. Hiring A Professional A move-out clean on a two-bedroom takes most people 6-10 hours. A professional team of two completes it in 3-4 hours. When your deposit is $1,000-$2,000+ and a professional move-out clean costs $250-$400, the math is straightforward. Our move-out cleaning is designed to pass landlord inspections. We clean to a detailed checklist covering every item property managers check and provide a receipt for your records. We serve renters throughout Minneapolis, St. Paul, Woodbury, and the entire Twin Cities. Common Questions Move-Out Cleaning FAQ Answers to the most common questions about move-out cleaning in Minneapolis. How far in advance should I book a move-out cleaning? Book at least one week in advance, especially at month-end when demand peaks. If moving at month-end, book two weeks ahead to guarantee your time slot. Can I schedule a clean if furniture is still there? You can, but results are better with an empty unit. Ideally, schedule after movers take your belongings and before your final walkthrough. What if my landlord still deducts after a professional clean? Under Minnesota law, landlords must provide itemized deductions within 21 days. Having a receipt from a professional cleaning company strengthens your case if you need to dispute. Does move-out cleaning include carpet cleaning? Standard move-out cleaning includes thorough vacuuming. Professional carpet shampooing is a separate service. Check your lease — some landlords require it regardless of condition. How long does a professional move-out cleaning take? A team of two completes a studio in 2-3 hours, two-bedroom in 3-4 hours, and three-bedroom in 4-5 hours. Condition and number of appliances are the biggest time factors. Protect Your Deposit Book Your Move-Out Clean Today Designed to pass landlord inspections. Flat-rate pricing. House Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning: What Minneapolis Homeowners Need to Know

MN’S #1 cleaning service House Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning. They’re not the same service. Here’s what’s included in each, when you need which, and the smartest way to combine them. Instant Booking call now Verified & Loved On Service Guide House Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning They’re not the same service. Here’s exactly what’s included in each, when you need which, and how much they cost in Minneapolis. You know you want your home cleaned, but which service do you actually need? The terms “house cleaning” and “deep cleaning” get thrown around interchangeably, but they’re very different services with different price points, timeframes, and results. Choosing the wrong one means you either overpay for what you need or end up disappointed. What’s Included: Side By Side Maintenance Standard Cleaning ✓ Countertops, stovetop, sink wiped ✓ Appliance exteriors cleaned ✓ Microwave interior wiped ✓ Toilets, showers, sinks disinfected ✓ Mirrors cleaned ✓ All floors vacuumed & mopped ✓ Surfaces dusted ✓ Beds made, trash emptied ✓ Light switches & door handles wiped Restoration Deep Cleaning ✓ Everything in standard clean, plus: ✓ Inside oven, fridge, dishwasher ✓ Behind & under appliances ✓ Inside cabinets & drawers ✓ All baseboards hand-cleaned ✓ Ceiling fans & light fixtures ✓ Window sills & tracks ✓ Air vents & registers ✓ Grout scrubbing, hard water removal ✓ Door frames, blinds, cobwebs TimeStandard: 1.5–3 hrsDeep: 3–6 hrs PriceStandard: $120–$280Deep: $200–$450+ FrequencyWeekly to monthly1–4x per year FocusMaintains surfacesRestores them When Do You Need A Deep Clean? Not every home needs a deep clean. Here are the most common situations where Minneapolis homeowners book one: First-Time CleanNever had professional cleaning? Start with a deep clean to establish a pristine baseline. Before HostingHoliday gatherings, dinner parties, family visits — when you want your home at its absolute best. Spring CleaningAfter months of Minnesota winter, dust, allergens, and stale air need a full reset. After IllnessFlu, COVID, or contagious illness. Deep clean eliminates lingering germs everywhere. Moving In or OutEven more thorough — move-out cleaning meets landlord inspection standards. Post-RenovationConstruction dust everywhere. Post-construction cleaning is specialized for this. When Is Standard Cleaning Enough? Standard recurring cleaning is enough when your home is already in good shape and you just need to maintain it. If your baseboards are dust-free, your oven doesn’t have baked-on grease, and your shower has no hard water buildup — you don’t need a deep clean. You need a good recurring schedule. The Smart Approach: Deep Clean First, Then Maintain Start with a one-time deep clean to reset your home. Then transition to a recurring schedule to maintain it without ever needing another deep clean. This approach saves money over time because recurring visits are faster and cheaper than repeated deep cleans. Your home stays consistently clean rather than cycling between dirty and freshly cleaned. We recommend this for all our clients across Minneapolis, St. Paul, Edina, Bloomington, and the entire Twin Cities metro. Common Questions House Cleaning vs. Deep Cleaning FAQ Answers to the most common questions about choosing the right service. Can I skip the deep clean and go straight to recurring? You can, but we don’t recommend it. If your home hasn’t been professionally cleaned recently, a standard cleaning won’t reach the level you’re expecting. Starting with a deep clean means recurring visits can maintain an already-clean home for better results. How often should I get a deep cleaning in Minneapolis? If you’re on a recurring schedule, most homeowners only need a deep clean once or twice a year — typically in spring after winter and again before the holiday season. Without recurring service, every 3-4 months is ideal. Does deep cleaning include inside the oven and refrigerator? Yes. A proper deep clean includes the interior of your oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. These are not included in standard recurring visits. Our full home clean covers every appliance interior. Is deep cleaning safe for pets and children? It depends on the products used. At Signature Shine, we use organic, non-toxic, biodegradable products and HEPA filtration vacuums on every visit. Our products are safe for children, pets, and anyone with chemical sensitivities. What is the difference between deep cleaning and move-out cleaning? Move-out cleaning is even more thorough. It includes everything in a deep clean plus inside every cabinet and drawer, every closet shelf, all appliance interiors, and cleaning to landlord inspection standards. Ready For A Reset? How Much Does House Cleaning Cost in Minneapolis? (2026 Pricing Guide)

MN’S #1 cleaning service How Much Does House Cleaning Cost In Minneapolis?. Real pricing from a local company. No surprises, no hidden fees — just honest numbers for every home size and service type. Instant Booking call now Verified & Loved On 2026 Pricing Guide How Much Does House Cleaning Cost In Minneapolis? Real pricing, no surprises. Here’s what Minneapolis homeowners actually pay for professional cleaning in 2026. If you’re searching for house cleaning in Minneapolis, the first question on your mind is probably the price. You want a clean home, but you also want to know what you’re getting into before you book. The short answer: most Minneapolis homeowners pay between $120 and $350 per visit for professional house cleaning, depending on home size, service type, and how often you book. But the real answer depends on what you actually need — and whether you’re comparing apples to apples when you shop around. Average Prices By Home Size Home size is the biggest factor in cleaning cost. Larger homes take more time, more supplies, and often require multiple cleaners. Small 1–2 Bedrooms $120–$170 Studios and small apartments up to 1,000 sq ft. 1.5 to 2.5 hours with one cleaner. Medium 2–3 Bedrooms $170–$250 Most common size for Minneapolis homeowners. 1,000-2,000 sq ft with two cleaners. Large 4+ Bedrooms $250–$400+ Larger homes in Wayzata, Eden Prairie, and Prior Lake. Pricing By Service Type Not all cleaning visits are the same. A quick maintenance clean costs significantly less than a deep clean or specialized service. Recurring Cleaning (Weekly, Biweekly, Monthly) $120–$280 per visit The most affordable option per visit. Your home stays in good shape between cleans. Biweekly is the most popular frequency among Twin Cities homeowners. Deep Cleaning / Full Home Clean $200–$450+ per visit Everything a standard clean does, plus baseboards, inside cabinets and appliances, ceiling fans, light fixtures, window sills, behind furniture. Recommended as your first appointment. Move In / Move Out Cleaning $250–$500+ per visit The most thorough cleaning available. Every surface, appliance interior, cabinet shelf, and fixture detailed to landlord inspection standards. Post-Construction Cleaning $300–$800+ depending on scope Removes drywall dust, paint splatters, adhesive residue, and construction debris after renovation or new construction. Airbnb / Short-Term Rental Cleaning $100–$250 per turnover Fast, reliable cleaning between guests including linen changes, restocking essentials, and damage report. Hourly vs. Flat-Rate Pricing Hourly pricing ($25–$50/hour per cleaner) sounds cheaper on paper, but you never know your final cost until the job is done. A team of three at $35/hour each means $105/hour. Hourly pricing incentivizes the company to take longer. Flat-rate pricing gives you the total cost upfront before anyone steps foot in your home. The cleaning team is incentivized to work efficiently because they earn the same whether it takes two hours or three. At Signature Shine, we use flat-rate pricing exclusively. You get your exact price in 60 seconds when you book online. No surprises, no clock-watching, no hidden fees. What Affects The Price? Condition of the home. A home that hasn’t been professionally cleaned in over a year requires more work. Most companies charge more for a first-time deep clean, then offer lower recurring rates. Number of bathrooms. Bathrooms are the most labor-intensive rooms. Three or more bathrooms typically increases the price even at the same square footage. Pets. Pet hair, dander, and occasional messes add time. Some companies charge a surcharge. At Signature Shine, pet-safe cleaning is included at no extra cost. Frequency discount. Weekly clients typically pay 10–20% less per visit than one-time clients. The more frequently you book, the less work each visit requires. How To Get The Best Value Ask if cleaners are W2 employees or independent contractors. W2 employees are trained, insured, and accountable. Gig workers often have no training, no insurance, and no accountability. Confirm insurance and bonding. If an uninsured cleaner damages your property or gets injured in your home, you could be liable. Check what’s included. A $99 cleaning that skips bathrooms isn’t cheaper than a $199 cleaning that covers everything. Compare checklists, not prices. Book a recurring plan. A recurring membership saves 10–20% compared to one-time cleans. Common Questions Minneapolis Cleaning Cost FAQ Everything you need to know about house cleaning pricing in the Twin Cities. How much does a one-time house cleaning cost in Minneapolis? A one-time house cleaning in Minneapolis typically costs between $170 and $350 depending on home size and condition. One-time cleans cost more than recurring visits because the home requires more thorough attention. At Signature Shine, one-time cleans start at $149 for a 1-2 bedroom home. Is it cheaper to clean my house myself or hire a professional? When you factor in quality supplies, equipment like a HEPA vacuum, and the value of your time, professional cleaning is often comparable. A professional team of two can clean a 2,000 sq ft home in 2-3 hours versus 4-6 hours for most homeowners. Do Minneapolis cleaning services charge extra for pets? Some do — pet hair and dander add time, so some companies add a $10-$25 pet surcharge. At Signature Shine, pet-safe cleaning with HEPA filtration is included in every visit at no extra charge. How often should I have my house professionally cleaned? Most Minneapolis homeowners find biweekly cleaning is the sweet spot — frequent enough to maintain a clean home without the cost of weekly service. Homes with pets, children, or heavy foot traffic benefit from weekly. Monthly works for smaller spaces. Why do some cleaning services cost so much more than others? Price differences come down to three things: employee type (W2 employees vs. gig workers), insurance coverage, and what’s actually included. Companies with trained W2 employees, full insurance, and comprehensive checklists cost more because they deliver more. Get Started Get Your Instant Price In 60 Seconds Flat-rate pricing.
